Wedding Photography on Film – 35mm & Medium Format

There’s something uniquely magical about wedding photos taken on real film.
The softness, the grain, the colours, the honest imperfections — all of it blends into imagery that feels deeply nostalgic, emotionally rich, and timeless from the very first look.

I photograph full wedding days using 35mm and medium format film, capturing your story with a slower, more intentional approach. Every frame is considered, every moment chosen. The result? A set of heirloom-quality photographs that feel like they belong in your family for generations.

You’ll receive beautiful physical prints from your original negatives, along with high-quality professional scans so you can enjoy and share your images in the modern world.

Authentic Analogue Wedding Photography, Shot on Real Film

Digital photography is incredible — but film carries a soul of its own.

Film offers:

  • Authentic Texture & Grain

Images with character, depth and emotion. Nothing artificial, nothing over-processed.

  • Timeless Colours & Beautiful Tones

Film renders skin tones and light in a way that feels organic, cinematic and warm.

  • A Thoughtful, Slow Approach

Every frame matters. I’m not firing thousands of images; I’m waiting, watching, anticipating — capturing the real story as it unfolds.

  • Photographs That Feel Like Heirlooms

Film images look instantly nostalgic, like they already belong in your family archive.

If you love vinyl, paper notebooks, handwritten postcards, old cameras and things made to last — film wedding photography will speak to your soul.

A Full Wedding Day Shot Entirely on Film

Shooting a whole wedding on film is bold, beautiful and completely intentional.

Here’s how I approach it:

35mm Film – Perfect for candid storytelling and documentary coverage
Medium Format Film – Stunning for portraits, details and slow, soulful moments
A Curated Film Stock Selection – Colour, black & white, and specific stocks chosen for your light and setting
Multiple Camera Bodies – For variety, backup and speed, normally Leica and Hasselblad
Professional Light Metering – Ensuring accuracy in every lighting situation

Your day stays relaxed, unobtrusive and natural — the same documentary style you know me for — simply captured on film instead of digital.

35mm Film Weddings

Film Wedding Photography Across Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds & the UK

Based in Oxfordshire, I photograph film weddings throughout:

  • Oxfordshire – Oxford colleges, barns, private estates
  • The Cotswolds – stone villages, manor houses, luxury barns
  • Berkshire – countryside houses, boutique hotels, riverside venues
  • Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, London and across the UK

Film photography pairs beautifully with natural light, earthy tones, historic venues and outdoor celebrations — locations this region is famous for.

Whether your day is intimate and atmospheric or grand and vibrant, film enhances the emotion and energy without overpowering it.

My Analogue Approach – Quiet, Observant, Story-Led

My work is rooted in candid, authentic storytelling.

I’m there to capture:

  • The quiet in-between moments
  • Real smiles and unrehearsed emotions
  • The atmosphere of your day — the grain of the wood, the softness of the light, the textures of your surroundings
  • The laughter, the tears, the little gestures you didn’t even see happen

Film deepens these moments. It slows the pace, sharpens the eye, and naturally leads to more considered, meaningful frames.

My Analogue Approach

Is Film Right for Your Wedding?

Film might be perfect for you if:

  • You value authenticity over perfection
  • You love the look and feel of analogue photography
  • You want a wedding gallery that feels artistic and cinematic
  • You prefer fewer, intentional photographs over thousands of duplicates
  • You want your wedding photos to feel like they have history and soul from day one

If you feel drawn to the beauty of film, trust the instinct — it’s probably the right medium for your story.

FAQ — Common Questions About Film Wedding Photography

What about low light?

With the right film stocks, fast lenses and small flashes when needed, low light on film is both possible and beautiful.

How many photos do we receive?

Because we’re shooting on real film, the number of final images is directly shaped by the rolls we use on the day:

  • 35mm film: 36 frames per roll
  • Medium format film: 10–12 frames per roll (depending on the camera and aspect ratio)

Most full film-only wedding days result in a few hundred final images, but the exact number depends on:

  • How many rolls you’d like to include in your package
  • Whether you want more 35mm (great for documentary coverage) or more medium format (perfect for portraits, details and slower, artistic moments)
  • The length and structure of your wedding day

Because film and scanning costs are fixed per roll, your overall investment directly affects the total number of frames we shoot. We’ll tailor this together so you get the perfect balance of storytelling coverage, portraits, and the beautiful analogue aesthetic you’re looking for.

Do you shoot digital as backup?

If you want a hybrid approach, yes absolutely — but I can also shoot 100% film only. We’ll tailor it to what feels right.

How long does film processing take?

Film is processed professionally, then scanned, then hand-edited. Expect 4–8 weeks depending on season.

Do you shoot black & white film?

Yes — I love mixing colour and B&W for a dynamic and emotional gallery.
