Narrowboat Wedding Photography & Film—Captured from My Floating Home

I’m Peter—wedding photographer, filmmaker, and full‑time narrowboat dweller cruising Britain’s Oxford Canal network year‑round on my floating home. The tow‑paths, locks, and wharfs aren’t just pretty backdrops—they’re my backyard studio.

Why a Canal‑Side Wedding (or Engagement Shoot) Just Works

  • Timeless textures
Cast‑iron bridges, weathered red brick, vintage mile‑posts, and willow‑draped banks deliver instant storybook charm.
  • Dreamy, even light
With no tall buildings, golden hour stretches longer and reflections soften skin tones naturally.
  • Unhurried atmosphere
Boats move at 4 mph, which keeps couples—and guests—relaxed and present for candid moments.
  • Easy for guests & dogs
Level tow‑paths make access simple, and most venues welcome four‑legged ring bearers.

My “Floating Studio” Advantage

  • Scout light in real time
I know exactly when morning mist hovers over Somerton Deep Lock or sunset kisses Braunston Turn.
  • Moor right at your venue
Zero travel fees if you’re anywhere between Oxford and Braunston; minimal footprint elsewhere.
  • Offer bonus film footage
Drone and boat‑level shots add cinematic movement you won’t get from shore‑based crews.
  • Share hidden gems
Secluded meadow moorings, industrial bridges, and cosy tow‑path pubs that aren’t on Google Maps.
  • Help at hand

As Im a narrow boat photographer, I’m literally based on a narrowboat, I can cast the boat itself as a backdrop or transport for couples who want those quintessential deck shots.

Favourite Photography Locations Along the Oxford Canal

  • Thrupp Wharf
Honey‑stone cottages + still morning reflections
  • Banbury Castle Quay
    Urban‑meets‑heritage textures; great rainy‑day cover
  • Somerton Deep Lock
Dramatic brick chambers for cinematic portraits, perfect for a pre-wedding or an engagement shoot.
  • Napton Flight
Rolling farmland vistas and iconic windmill skyline.
  • Braunston Turn
Twin iron bridges form a natural aisle; dawn light on glassy.

Not sure which spot fits your vibe? Let’s talk through options on a Zoom call—or over a tea on the roof deck if I’m moored nearby.

FAQs

Do we have to get married on a boat?
Not at all. Many couples book me for barn or manor weddings within 30 minutes of the canal, then nip down to the tow‑path for portraits.
Will you travel beyond the Oxford Canal?
Yes—I cover Cotswolds, Birmingham & the Midlands. Travel is carbon‑light when I cruise; further afield I offset mileage.
Can we bring our dog?
Absolutely. Tow‑paths are dog paradise, and I keep treats on board for good boys and girls.
Can we use your narrowboat in our photos?
Absolutely—if mooring rules allow, we can stage deck portraits or even use the roof for confetti shots.
