Natural, story-led wedding photography for couples who want honest images, real atmosphere and nothing that feels staged. Based in Oxford, covering Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds, London and selected weddings further afield.

Wedding Photography with Minimal posing, maximum authenticity

A DOCUMENTARY APPROACH TO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

I’m Peter Haken, a wedding photographer based in Oxford. My approach is calm, observant and story-led, built around real moments, strong composition and a day that still feels like your own.

I do not over-direct or turn weddings into productions. Most of the coverage is documentary, with light guidance only when it helps. That gives you photographs with atmosphere, movement and honesty, while still feeling polished and considered.

I also work increasingly with Leica wedding photography, because it suits the way I like to shoot, with intention, discretion and more focus on people than on equipment.

WHERE I PHOTOGRAPH WEDDINGS

Although the approach stays consistent, each setting brings something different. I regularly photograph weddings across Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds and London, with Oxford as home base.

OXFORDSHIRE

I photograph weddings across Oxfordshire, including Oxford, Woodstock, Bicester, Henley, Banbury, Abingdon, Witney and the surrounding villages. From Oxford colleges and country houses to barns and private estates, the focus is always the same, honest wedding photography that feels natural, emotive and connected to the day.

THE COTSWOLDS

The Cotswolds suits a quieter, more observational style of wedding photography. The landscape, architecture and pace of the day often lend themselves to images that feel relaxed, elegant and full of atmosphere.

LONDON

London weddings bring a different rhythm, more movement, more contrast and more energy. I photograph London weddings in a way that keeps the pace and character of the city while still making space for honest, stylish portraits and real moments.

MINIMAL POSING, REAL COVERAGE

I do not over-direct the day or manufacture moments for the camera. Most of the coverage is documentary, with short pockets of calm direction when portraits or group photographs need it.

That balance matters. You get the honesty and energy of real moments, but the gallery still feels considered, well-composed and visually strong. Nothing stiff. Nothing overworked. Just photographs that reflect what the day actually felt like.

WHAT THE PHOTOGRAPHY SHOULD FEEL LIKE

HONEST

Real moments matter more than performances. The day is documented as it unfolds, without forcing it into something it is not.

CALM

You should be able to enjoy the wedding without feeling watched or managed. I work quietly and keep direction light.

STYLISH

The images are natural, but still considered. Strong composition, good light and a clean edit give the gallery a timeless finish.

PERSONAL

The best wedding photographs are not generic. They reflect your people, your setting and the particular energy of your day.

HOW THE DAY IS PHOTOGRAPHED

MORNING PREP

I document the build-up, the atmosphere of the space and the smaller moments that help set the story in motion, without turning the morning into a staged shoot.

THE CEREMONY

I work quietly and without disruption, focusing on real reactions, the sense of place and the moments that pass quickly if they are over-managed.

THE RECEPTION

Candid coverage, social energy and the changing rhythm of the day. Group photographs are kept efficient so you can get back to your guests.

PORTRAITS

Usually around 10 to 15 minutes of relaxed direction, built around good light, your connection and the setting around you. Nothing awkward, nothing over-posed.

THE EVENING

Speeches, dancing, low light and the atmosphere later on. I photograph the evening as it feels, keeping the energy and mood of the room intact.

DELIVERY

A preview gallery is delivered shortly after the wedding, followed by your full edited collection online in high resolution.

REAL WEDDINGS, REAL PLACES, REAL MOMENTS

The best way to understand the work is to see full stories, not just a few hero images. View recent weddings and get a better sense of how I photograph a full day, from the quieter opening moments through to the atmosphere later on.

COMMON QUESTIONS

HOW MUCH COVERAGE DO WE NEED?

Most couples book from morning prep through to the dance floor. That gives you a complete record of the day without gaps in the story.

DO YOU POSE PEOPLE A LOT?

No. Direction stays light and brief. Portraits are relaxed, natural and built around composition rather than awkward staging.

WHEN DO WE GET THE PHOTOS?

A preview selection is delivered soon after the wedding. Your full edited gallery then follows online in high resolution.

DO YOU ONLY WORK IN OXFORD?

No. Oxford is home base, but I regularly photograph weddings across Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds and London, as well as selected weddings further afield.

DO YOU STILL OFFER FILM?

Yes, but only for a limited number of dates. Photography is now the main focus, so film commissions are more selective.

SELECTED FILM COMMISSIONS ARE STILL AVAILABLE

Although photography is now the main focus, I still take on a limited number of wedding film commissions where the fit is right. If you are interested in film, you can still explore that side of the work.
